Content Canine

Another shot from the dirt road, this time of a very content Kelsey, after running through the tall grass ditches.  Cash was too busy hunting mice or the like to be photographed.

Gaze Avoidance

On 09/16/2012, in Uncategorized, by keyfotoblog

I was up at my maternal family’s cabin at Wallace Lake in early August with Mike and our dogs, Cash & Kelsey.  I was sitting on the deck with the dogs and snapping some photos of Mike fishing and of my furry toddlers.  I’m always amused at how Cash always avoids looking into the lens, no matter how sweetly you talk to him, or whistle, or get infront of him.  The only time he’ll look right at you is to show you his complete disapproval for what you are doing.  Kelsey on the other hand hams it up for the camera, and her favourite pose is that of the “sad puppy” which she has indeed mastered.

Planes & Pups

keyFOTO annoucement:  Follow this link for a sneak-preview of the ’150K From Here’ exhibit.   Opening night is May 17, 2012 -7-11PM @ Cre8ery in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Back to the post:

I decided to keep going in chronological order.  However, that may cause some confusion, so here is some clarification:  We stayed in Playa Larga for 4 days (3 nights), and on our third day we drove down to Playa Girón (located at the Eastern opening of the Bay of Pigs).  So today I will be showcasing photos from our day trip in Playa Girón, and next week I will be showing more photos from Playa Larga.

This is the Revolution museum in Playa Girón. This was the main reason we went to Playa Girón.

Part of the Revolution Forces was a Literary Brigade, where official Literacy Soldiers taught Cubans how to read and write. This was a major part of Ernesto "Che" Guevara's reformation for the Cuban people. Cuba today has the highest literacy rate in the Caribbean region and most of S. America.

For those that don't know me personally, I am a big history-buff, and I also have an affinity for (military) weaponry. Many a family members have been subjected to my weapons museum addiction.

View of a tank display, from standing inside the museum.

Caption from the photos and write-ups in exhibit. (This was my husband's favourite slogan)

A quote from Fidel Castro, which I believe best sums up the plight & fight of the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution.

A view from inside the museum - Anti-aircraft weaponry.

Another view.

This wall displayed photos of all the Cubans who sacrificed their lives to fight against the Bay of Pigs Invasion.

I found it rather shocking how young some of these soldiers were. I think having so many personal effects from those KIA made a big impact on how well this museum connects you to gravity of the Revolution.

Official plaque dedicated to The Bay of Pigs Invasion.

A tank, part of the outdoor museum.

I believe this was an enemy plane that was captured. (Fans of the departures tv show will recognize this)

Plane, with a view of the museum on the left hand side.

I kind of loved shooting this plane. This was my favourite.

This broke my heart. There are street dogs everywhere in Cuba. Most of them seem happy and healthy, but there are those that clearly need some medical attention. This particular girl was a very happy dog, but had some pretty bad skin problems.

The World of Cash

On 10/23/2011, in Uncategorized, by keyfotoblog

Another dog-themed post today.  I had hoped these would have turned out better than they did, but alas, they did not turn out as I had envisioned. I still found them amusing, so I thought I’d share.  We took the dogs to The Floodway today for a little ‘fresh air’, and I strapped the GoPro on Cash to see how it’d work.  I tried the first on on his back, and the second on his chest.  It didn’t work as well as I would have hoped, so I’ll have to do some more thinking on it, or rig some sort of better harness myself.  Note: not for those who get easily motion sick!!  - Oh, and there are 2 because I missed the post last week.  Slightly new look to the blog.  Cheers!

Dog Days of Summer

On 06/05/2011, in Uncategorized, by keyfotoblog

It’s finally starting to feel like Summer here.  Now if only the rain would let up a bit more.  Although, from my comparisions, we are experiencing similar weather to that of Denmark.

With a mostly sunny day, Mike, the dogs, and I took advantage of it and headed outside for a round of fetch.  Kelsey takes fetch to a whole new level.  It’s not a game, it’s a sport.  She is very intense and driven about her sport.  It’s a good thing though.  Cash wanted in on some of the action, but he more or less just likes to chew the tennis balls.  However, we still make him work for it.

Hope you all had a nice weekend and enjoyed the weather outside!

Kelsey's in the zone.

This was my favourite action shot of Kelsey.

Spring Hath Sprung

On 03/25/2011, in Uncategorized, by keyfotoblog

Good day blog readers!

I am fully aware this is a day late, I was having connectivity issues yesterday with my internet.   After trying to publish a post 4 times and having it disappear into the black hole of the interwebs, I thought I better just walk away, and try again tomorrow.

So here I am, on a Friday, making a quick post.  I don’t have a whole lot to share with you at the moment.  I’ve been suffering from a creative dry spell lately.  That being said, Spring is in the air, and I am feeling hopeful for the photographic opportunities it will bring, and I’m sure inspiration will follow.

For those who haven’t had a chance yet, or didn’t know it existed, please check out my website: keyfoto.com I am pretty proud of it, and hope you will enjoy it.  I hope to have the webstore up soon with some exciting new products that will be available.

For the dog owners: Spring = bath & grooming for the hounds!  Which happens to be a great opportunity for getting your pooch’s portrait done!  I will be putting up a price list in the coming week with a couple different packages.  Feel free to contact me through the website or by email (Kirsten@keyfoto.com) to book your dog portrait session!!

Kelsey!
